Government support for a locally built hybrid Camry

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/44149.jpg"

Toyota Australia wishes to clarify a report attributed to a Toyota Australia executive on the front page of The Australian newspaper on Wednesday, 11 June.

Toyota's decision to build a hybrid Camry in Australia was based on various business considerations; however the Government's support was a critical factor in securing local production.

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/RSS_Mar_Camry.jpg"

It might come as a bit of a surprise, but did you know that some of our biggest-selling cars are manufactured right here in Australia? Our Altona plant in Melbourne employs about 4,000 people and is the birthplace of the 4-cylinder Camry and the Aurion V6, two of our greatest success stories. These cars have proven hugely popular, not only at home but overseas as well. In fact, last year we exported 95,000 Camrys and Aurions to more than 20 countries!

Why not see for yourself what makes these cars such winners? Try out our new Build and Price application to create your very own custom-made Camry or Aurion.

* Camry Grande model in Silver Ash shown

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/RSS_Mar_LeeKernaghan.jpg"

To many people, Lee Kernaghan represents the very essence of the spirit and values of contemporary rural Australia. With a passion for not only his music but his country as well, Lee brings the two together in support for country communities all across Australia. In the past ten years, his 'Pass the Hat Around' tours have raised more than a million dollars for communities in need and, in January this year, his participation in the 'Toyota Concert for Rural Australia' not only raised much needed funds, but spirits as well, for farming families doing it tough in the drought.

We are proud of our association with Lee and we congratulate him on this much-deserved honour.

Make way for the V6 HiLux Heroes

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/RSS_Jan_HiLuxHeroes.jpg"

We've teamed up with some of Australia's top professional drivers to form the V6 HiLux Heroes stunt driving team. The team will pilot Australia's best-selling ute, which has only had to be slightly modified.

The V6 HiLux Heroes will entertain crowds at major shows throughout the year with displays of stunts and formation driving. The highlights of the performance are a driver balancing a HiLux on two wheels and a 12 metre ramp-to-ramp jump over 3 moving HiLuxs.

The tough HiLux is built for tasks like these! In fact, no under body modifications were needed. Check out our V6 HiLux Heroes at the Canberra Royal Show from February 22 to 24 and at the Sydney Royal Easter Show from 20 March to 2 April.
The RAV4 now packs a much bigger punch. There are 200 killer wasps (sorry, that's 200 kilowatts) lurking below the bonnet of the new Toyota RAV V6. It will satisfy all power hungry drivers with its big 3.5 litre V6 quad cam VVTi engine. On the outside, it’s like no ordinary AWD. There's no escaping the allure of the new 17" alloys*, distinctive chrome grille and darkened headlamp treatment. Of course, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control for challenging conditions, as well as 5-speed electronic automatic transmission comes standard.
Japanese carmakers are taking environmentally friendly vehicles to the next level. At this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the 1/X (pronounced one-Xth) that sips fuel at half the rate of the petrol-electric Prius. Although you can’t buy one yet, the 1/X points towards a greener future. The 1/X creator says he even dreams of building his vehicle from a natural, renewable source, such as seaweed! Another Toyota concept, the four-seat iQ, is close to production. At less than three metres long, it's targeted at crowded cities in Europe and Japan, but could come to Australia.

Almost 50 years ago Toyota launched the original LandCruiser. Since then it’s built a strong reputation for being the invincible and unbeatable 4WD. Next month, we’ll launch the all-new LandCruiser 200 (LC200) at the Australian International Motor Show.

We’ve taken the LandCruiser apart and built it from the bottom up to produce the most legendary LandCruiser to date. LC200 delivers more power, but uses less fuel**. It’s bigger and tougher on the outside, but more plush and comfortable on the inside. The new LC200 continues to be the King off the road.

** Estimated range based on ADR81/01 combined cycle figure of L/100km. Range and fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions/style, vehicle condition and options/accessories.

Australia’s most popular mid-sized car just got safer. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) will now come standard across the entire Toyota Camry range.

VSC is a great vehicle safety feature that helps prevent crashes. In fact, studies show it helps drivers maintain control of their vehicles and reduces casualty rates by up to 35%^. TRC helps optimise traction when accelerating on slippery surfaces. The Camry really is the car that's in touch with the digital age. It senses your needs and exceeds your expectations.
In August, over 25,000 music fans turned out for the 26th Toyota National Country Music Muster. They came in their 4WDs, camped for the 4-day event and battled the rain to see some of Australia’s biggest country music acts, including Lee Kernaghan, The Black Sorrows, Augie March and Thirsty Merc.

The event isn’t just a lot of fun, it’s also a fundraiser. In 2006, $1.1 million was raised. This year, around 20 local rural community groups, who help farmers affected by the drought, will receive grants. We also gave away a new Toyota Hilux pickup to one of the groups, Queensland’s Aussie Helpers.

Toyota Digs deep for National Tree Day

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/Content/Static Files/RSS_July_TreeDay.jpg"
Toyota is proud to once again sponsor National Tree Day on Sunday 29 July. Organised by Planet Ark, the initiative aims to promote the community planting of native trees and shrubs across Australia. Toyota and Channel 7 will be running a promotion to raise awareness of this great event, which will feature Toyota ambassador ex-Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins. Popular shows like The Great Outdoors and Better Homes and Gardens will also support this important community event.

As part of our National Tree Day sponsorship, we will be giving away a major cash donation**. TV viewers will be asked to visit www.yahoo7.com.au/treeday and nominate a community-based environment initiative they believe is making an outstanding difference to the environment. Entrants will be asked to describe in 40 words or less why the environmental initiative deserves to win Toyota’s National Tree Day donation. The most creative and original entry will win. The winning initiative will receive a cool $10,000 - as will the person who nominated them!

A 3.5-litre V6 Dual VVT-i engine makes the NG Kluger the most powerful naturally-aspirated SUV in its class. With over 200kW of power, our new model offers the choice and flexibility of Two-Wheel-Drive or All-Wheel-Drive to suit all kinds of demands. A class-leading seven SRS airbags and Toyota’s Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS), incorporating Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and ABS, help offer maximum protection. The seven seats (available across all grades) allow plenty of room to manoeuvre. And with smart features available (on selected grades) such as BluetoothTM hands-free compatibility, Power Rear Door, Smart Entry and Start, Rear Seat Entertainment and a Rear Reversing camera, the Next Generation Kluger has been thoughtfully designed for maximum safety and convenience, whether you’re on-road or off-track

Introducing our new high performance sedan

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/Content/Static Files/RSS_July_Aurion.jpg"
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Australia is soon to release an exciting new performance vehicle. In a world first for Toyota, the new TRD Aurion will launch next month. It’s a triumphant moment for the highly experienced and expert engineering team who created this new performance sedan. The car features a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine pumping out 241kW, as well as a six-speed automatic transmission. With a premium sporty design for a highly sophisticated feel, the look is inspired by Toyota’s Formula One car. Even the car seats themselves are evocative of racing seats, providing high lateral support with high grip materials.

The new TRD Aurion is also the first production car in the world to use the new Eaton twin-vortices supercharger (TVS), substantially reducing engine noise while improving power and torque.

Find out more about this premium performance vehicle on our website, and get behind the ‘virtual’ wheel of the new 2007 TRD Corolla in our online game - the 3D TRD Rally Experience.

Toyota worldwide Hybrid sales top 1 million units

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/Content/Static/RSS_June_Prius.jpg"
Toyota worldwide Hybrid sales top 1 million units

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) have recently announced that global cumulative sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles have topped the 1 million mark, with approximately 1,047,000 units sold worldwide as of 31 May 2007*.

Toyota launched the Prius - the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle - in Japan in 1997 and began selling it in North America, Europe and elsewhere in 2000. Over time, Toyota has expanded the use of its hybrid system to minivans, SUVs, rear-wheel-drive sedans and other vehicles.

The second-generation Prius, equipped with the Toyota Hybrid System II, was introduced in 2003 with an emphasis on delivering both environmental performance and power. In May this year Toyota Australia set an all time monthly record achieving 380 Prius vehicle sales.

Toyota Environment - Innovation into the Future

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/RSS_Environment.jpg"
Toyota is reducing the environmental impact of vehicles by developing new technologies and improving existing product designs.

Lower fuel consumption and reductions in carbon dioxide and other emissions are being pursued to give owners the confidence that the impact of their vehicle use is minimised.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive in Toyota Prius allows energy recovery and storage for greater energy efficiency. The Prius reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 50% and has achieved a 5-star rating in the Federal Government's Green Vehicle Guide.

Toyota is also working hard to develop future Eco-Cars which will use hydrogen or electric power instead of petrol.

<img src="http://www.toyota.com.au/TWR/content/static/RSS_Rally.jpg"
Toyota's Simon and Sue Evans have begun their NEC Australian Rally Championship title defence with an impressive win in the first round at Coates Rally Queensland.

The reigning champion has been in fine form since he arrived in Queensland, setting the fastest time on every one of the event's 17 stages in the forests of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and winning both heats of the rally.
Progress was only halted momentarily on SS16 when he slid off the road into two trees and into a ditch. However, after returning to the road Evans still managed to set the fastest time on that stage.

Simon Evans now leads the NEC Australian Rally Championship with 81 points, while Neal Bates sits in fourth with 44 points.
